Many of us already use LLMs like ChatGPT in our work. But you can use the very same tools just as effectively to look for a job. Let me show you one way — how to quickly build a “career wardrobe.”
What’s a career wardrobe? It’s an analysis of the most common requirements for your position in a specific market. Which skills come up most often? Do you need certifications? How much does the language matter?
How we used to do this. We’d analyze each job posting by hand and write everything into an Excel sheet. Useful as that is, the process can eat up hours. And if you’re looking at several different positions — days.
With ChatGPT you can do it 20 times faster.
1️⃣ Open ChatGPT and write the prompt:
Hi! I want to analyze the requirements for [your profession] in [country].
I'm going to send you 20 job postings one at a time. From each one, pull out the requirements for the applicant and give me a table sorted by frequency, high to low. Ready?2️⃣ Copy the text of the postings (not the links!) and send them one at a time. The LLM confirms each one: “Got 1/20, waiting for the next.”
3️⃣ In the end you get:
- a requirements table with frequencies
- a written analysis: what’s critical, what’s nice-to-have
- insights you’d never have spotted yourself
Lifehack: you can throw in postings in different languages — ChatGPT will translate and analyze them itself.
After an analysis like this, you can drop your resume into ChatGPT and ask how well it matches the requirements, and what it would suggest you improve.
⚠️ Important limitations:
- After the 10th position in the table, the chance of hallucinations goes up. Treat the LLM’s answers with caution.
The downside of this approach: When you read the postings yourself, you understand the market better. When you hand it all to ChatGPT, you gain speed but lose some of your own depth of understanding.
