Honestly, this topic could be split into several posts. But then my Facebook would start attracting the wrong kind of attention. So I’ve tried to fit it all into one.
Japan has a truly singular sex culture. On one hand, the Japanese are very reserved. In public, for instance, you can’t hug and certainly can’t kiss — it’s deeply improper. The most you can do is hold hands. And even that is a signal to everyone around you that you’re in a very close relationship.
On the other hand…
The age of consent is 13. Every store sells porn magazines. In bookstores, porn manga takes up several floors. We did, of course, leaf through the comics on those floors. Oh, friends, I saw terrible things. Good thing they were black and white. I thought about describing a couple of the pages I saw here. But I’m afraid the admins would block my post, and possibly my whole account.
Sex shops.
If you think the most interesting sex shops are in Amsterdam (and that’s exactly what I used to think), you’re mistaken. In Akihabara, sex shops take up as many as 6 floors. Some floors have signs reading “No women allowed.” I’ve never seen that many artificial vaginas anywhere. For the customers’ convenience, all the products are displayed in cross-section, so you can see exactly where you’d be inserting what. That said, there were also some very hi-tech contraptions there. Resembling a vacuum cleaner. With swappable cartridges for different vibration levels, or whatever it was. Looks rather frightening, honestly. Not everyone would work up the nerve to insert a body part in there on the first try.
Life-size 1:1 dolls are fairly expensive. But if you’re short on cash, you can buy a smaller doll. And to add some variety to your lonely sex life, you can buy extra swappable eyes, faces, and heads to go with the dolls.
And if you can’t even afford a small doll, you can buy a pillow with a hole in it. Yes, yes. A pillow. With a hole. And, of course, a set of swappable pillowcases featuring various anime girls.
DVDs.
It’s amazing, but the DVD format is still popular in Japan. The disc stores tower up 5-6 floors as well. I wouldn’t advise a mentally healthy person to go above the fourth. And I won’t be describing floors 5 and 6 either. It’s rather interesting that screens hang throughout the shelves everywhere, playing trailers for new porn films.
And, of course, panties.
Yes, the belief is that a respectable Japanese man ought to keep a pair of used women’s panties on hand. They say a lot of girls make decent money off this. In the morning they put on 5-6 pairs. In the evening they hand them in to the shops.
The panties are usually sold in vending machines. Prices start at a few dollars. But if you want specific panties from a specific girl, with her photo and autograph — then you’ll have to shell out several dozen.
That’s about all, I think. I’ll stop here — too scared to reread. ;)
