Back in the Facebook-and-Instagram era, the term FOMO — Fear Of Missing Out — was about social networks and streams of information. Everyone suddenly started sharing everything, and this vague unease crept in: what if I’m missing something important? Hence the urge to check your phone two hundred times a day. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about. That ship has sailed. The only reason I don’t check my phone every minute is that I sit in front of a monitor all day anyway.
A couple of years ago we all woke up in a world of Techno-FOMO. You haven’t even finished reading the news about the new ChatGPT update, and a notification already pops up about the new revolution from DeepSeek. You reach for the mouse to read it — and up pops a notification about a new release from Anthropic. And there’s no way to hit pause. You’re afraid to even blink. That’s roughly what my Techno-FOMO looks like.
So how do you not lose your mind in the singularity? The honest answer — you can’t. But here’s what I do: Every time I see yet another headline like “Sora can now generate 4K video from the Schrödinger equation, quantum entanglement, the breath of a unicorn, and your typo-ridden prompt”… every single time, I ask myself: when exactly did I last need to generate 4K video? Or re-record the Beatles in Klingon? Or run deep research?
If I wasn’t even planning to do, say, 3D generation in Blender, then why should these shiny new tools bother me now?
Deep Research I do use, though.
I decided to focus on what I actually understand. Preparing webinars. Managing my knowledge and ideas. That’s where Cursor, Heptabase, and MCP-with-Obsidian come in. In the next posts I’ll tell you and show you exactly what I’ve managed to put to use.
It’s wonderful when new technology hands you new solutions, instead of only handing you new problems and a fresh case of Techno-FOMO. But blinking is still a little scary sometimes. 😉
